Mount Nemrut
Mount Nemrut towers at 2,150 meters in Adıyaman, Turkey. Located in the Taurus Mountains range, near the Ankar Mountains, and close to the Kahta district. Declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1987, Mount Nemrut is under protection by the Mount Nemrut National Park established in 1988.
The mountain is home to archaeological remains from the ancient "Kingdom of Commagene" The cultural artifacts within the national park include Antiochus tumulus and giant statues, Eskikale, Yenikale, Karakuş Hill, and Cendere Bridge. The eastern and western terraces are adorned with lion and eagle statues, as well as statues of Antiochus and gods & goddesses. The unique Lion Horoscope is located on the western terrace. There are three stars, believed to represent the planets, Mars, Mercury, and Jupiter, with 16 points on the lion. It is the oldest known horoscope in history.
