Elazýð Museum was founded on April 30, 1965 as "Harput Museum". In 1982, as Elazýð Archeology and Ethnography Museum, opened to service with its new museum building within Fýrat University Faculty of Engineering Campus.

Elazýð Museum was founded on April 30, 1965 as "Harput Museum". In 1982, as Elazýð Archeology and Ethnography Museum, opened to service with its new museum building within Fýrat University Faculty of Engineering Campus. Museum building composed of 3 halls; archaeological artifacts and coins room, carpet and kilim gallery and ethnography hall. The museum has a total of 30,924 works, 14.777 archaeological, 5.301 ethnographic and 10.846 coins.
